Using records to store change requests
- About records
A Rational ClearQuest database contains different types of records, as defined in the Designer. You can use different types of records for different projects and purposes. Each record type has unique fields and data requirements. - Record types
A record type is the layout or format for a particular type of change request. It defines the actions, fields, forms, behaviors, and possibly the state information associated with a record. Each record type is associated with its own state model, forms, and hooks, which control the collection and viewing of data for that type of change request. - Record states and state transitions
Change requests move through a life cycle from submission through resolution. Each stage in this life cycle is called a state, and each movement from one state to another is called a state transition. - Finding and viewing a record
Each record is assigned a unique ID. If you know the ID of the record you want to work with, you can search for it specifically. - Modifying a single record
All records in the database can be modified to update or correct information. If you are modifying a state-based record, modification can also involve changing the state. - Modifying multiple records
In situations where you want to make the same modification to more than one record, you can modify multiple Rational ClearQuest records at one time. - Changing the state of a record
You can change the state of a state-based record if at least one change-state action is defined in the schema. - Marking a duplicate record
If two records are similar, you can place one in a Duplicate state. A record can be a duplicate of only one record, but it can have more than one duplicate. - Printing a record
You can print records for hard-copy versions and for the ability to review record information when you are disconnected from the database. - Submitting a record
You can submit a record using any record type defined in the schema. - Viewing the history of a record
You can view the history of a record to see what actions have been performed against it since it was submitted. - Changing the font display on a record form
You can change the fonts on a record form to customize the display for accessibility reasons or other personal preferences. - Defining a record template with default values
You can create a record template with default values if you frequently submit records that contain identical information.
