Replica creation scenario

The following topics provide an example of the replica export, transport, and import processes.

For the example in these topics, the company’s software development takes place in Boston and in a new development office in San Francisco. Work is about to begin on a new release.

  1. Prerequisites
    Before you create a new replica, you must perform the steps in this topic at the original site.
  2. Activating the database set
    Before you can create the first replica of a database, you must activate the database set (a schema repository and its associated user databases).
  3. Exporting the replica packet
    You create a replica by generating replica-creation packets and sending them to the sites that will host the database replicas.
  4. Transporting the replica packet
    If you chose not the use the -fship option when you exported the replica packet, an additional step is required to transport the packet to the new site.
  5. Importing the replica packet
    When you import a replica-creation packet, you import raw data into existing vendor databases. Replica-creation packets do not contain databases; they contain the metadata and record data that form a database.
