Installing WebSphere Application Server web components

Before you can install or upgrade to the CCRC WAN server or Automatic view WAN server, you must install or upgrade the IBM® WebSphere Application Server environment where you plan to deploy the web server components. You can generate a report to determine the current supported version of a specific product from the Software product compatibility reports tool. To generate a report, select your product, version, and operating system. For a fix pack release, select the parent version of the product to see the reports.

About this task

Before you install or upgrade any of the ClearCase® WAN server web components, you might need to upgrade the existing WebSphere Application Server installation or install a new instance.

Restrictions

Before you begin an installation of WebSphere Application Server, review the following information.

  • On Linux and UNIX systems, do not use symbolic links as the destination directory. Symbolic links are not supported.
  • Do not use a semicolon in the directory name. WebSphere Application Server cannot install properly if the target directory includes a semicolon. A semicolon is a character that is used to construct the class path on Windows systems.
  • The maximum path length for the installation location on the Windows operating system is 60 characters.
  • Deleting the default target location and leaving an installation-directory field empty prevents you from continuing.

Procedure

Installation of WebSphere Application Server

  1. Plan your installation.

    Review which software components you can install and which IBM Installation Manager methods you can use to install them, and determine where to install the software.

  2. At the Install Packages panel, select the following packages for installation:
    • IBM WebSphere Application Server
    • IBM HTTP Server for WebSphere Application Server
    • Web Server Plug-ins for IBM WebSphere Application Server
    • WebSphere Customization Toolbox
  3. Prepare your operating system.

    Install libraries, adjust system settings, and stop any processes that might interfere with the installation as required by your operating system.

  4. Install the product.

    Using your chosen Installation Manager method, install WebSphere Application Server and any additional software.

    After you install WebSphere Application Server, you can set up profiles and configure your environment.

    If you have not already run the Web Server Plug-ins Configuration Tool to configure the web server to communicate with the application server, see Configuring a web plug-in for IBM HTTP Server. On Windows, this tool requires user credentials for a built-in Administrator or a local user in the Administrator group.

  • Optional: Create a WebSphere Application Server application profile
