About queries

Queries are customized searches of a Rational® ClearQuest® database.

When you create a query, you add filters to define the criteria for selecting records. For example, you might want to retrieve only the defect records that are assigned to you or only the records that are associated with your project. If you create and run a query without defining any filters, all records in the database are returned in the result set.

Queries can be simple or complex, as defined by the filter expressions. Queries are functionally equivalent to SQL queries except that you can develop them visually rather than in the SQL language.

You can design the display of the result set. For example, you might want to include only a subset of the record fields, or you might want to sort the returned records by the submission date.

You can perform the following actions on queries: Bookmark, Add to Rational ClearQuest Favorites, Email, and Print. A Bookmark is created and accessible through your browser and a Rational ClearQuest Favorite is added to the session and accessible from the left pane.

When you run a query, Rational ClearQuest software searches for records that match the specified criteria. If one or more records match, a summary list of the records appears in the result set display. Select a record in the result set display to view its contents in the record form.

You can save queries to your Personal Queries folder so that you can run them again. If you have the Super User or Public Folder Administrator privilege, you can save queries to the Public Queries folder.
