Testing schemas

You must test schema changes with the supported clients in your Rational® ClearQuest® environment.

About this task

If you have a significant amount of design, development, and modification work to do, save your work often. Click File > Save Work to save the changes without checking in the schema. This action does not validate your changes, and you cannot upgrade the test database with this saved version of the schema.

You cannot cancel the schema checkout after you click File > Test Work during a schema editing session.

To test a schema:

Procedure

  1. Start the Designer.
  2. Click File > Test Work.

Your schema changes are saved and validated, and errors are displayed in the Validation pane at the bottom of the Designer window. The Designer updates your test database to the new schema version.

  3. Test the schema with the supported clients.
    • On Windows systems, the Rational ClearQuest Client starts so that you can test the schema to see whether it works as expected.
    • For Linux, the UNIX system, or Web clients, you must log on to the test database. For Linux and the UNIX system, pay special attention to the layout of forms and the execution of scripts.
  4. Fix any validation errors. You cannot check in a schema that has validation errors.
