Checking in schemas

After editing and testing a schema, you must check it in. When you check in a schema, the new version is saved in the schema repository.

About this task

Checking in a schema does not affect existing user databases. To put your changes into effect, you must apply the new version of the schema to the user databases by upgrading the user database.

To check in a schema:

Procedure

  1. Start the Designer.
  2. Click File > Check In. The Designer validates the schema, and errors are displayed in the Validation pane at the bottom of the Designer window.
  3. Review the validation results.

If there are validation errors, you must correct them. You cannot check in a schema that contains validation errors.

  4. When the schema is validated, the Check In window with your original checkout Comments is displayed. Edit the comments (optional), and click OK.

Results

A history of each schema version is saved, so you can view a previous version and use it in a new database.
