Upgrading packages to the latest versions

Each package has its own version number that is unrelated to the Rational® ClearQuest® product version number.
The third decimal number of the package version indicates which language the package supports. No third decimal place indicates ASCII, .2 indicates Japanese and .3 indicates Simplified Chinese. For example:
  • English: x.y
  • Japanese: x.y.2
  • Simplified Chinese: x.y.3

New versions of packages are qualified for use starting with the version of ClearQuest which first contains the new package version. Packages are not qualified with previous releases of Rational ClearQuest. For this reason, it is highly recommended that if you apply a new version of Rational ClearQuest to a schema, you also deploy new versions of Rational ClearQuest clients to all your users. Typically, new versions of packages work with previous clients, but they are not qualified for such use.

If you are using Rational ClearQuest MultiSite, you must upgrade your MultiSite servers to be at the same new version that contains the new release of the package. The schema update process requires that the MultiSite server has the new version package files available at that server.

For information about applying packages, see Overview of package application process

Using the latest packages

You can upgrade to the latest packages using the packaging wizard available in Rational ClearQuest Designer. The packaging wizard compares the package versions in a release to the packages available in your Rational ClearQuest installation to determine if there is a newer version available. Then, you can upgrade packages individually or upgrade all packages at the same time. For instructions, see Applying packages.

Packages for Japanese and Simplified Chinese

You can upgrade all packages to the Japanese or Simplified Chinese versions. The software detects if the Rational ClearQuest code page of the database set is Japanese or Simplified Chinese and automatically updates all packages to that latest translated package for that language if one of those packages is already in Japanese or Simplified Chinese. If all packages are in English, manually upgrade one of the packages to your desired language, and then run Upgrade Installed Packages to automatically upgrade all other packages to that language as well.

If different types of non-ASCII packages have been applied to your schema such as a Chinese package and Japanese package, then you must individually upgrade each package to the latest. Upgrading all packages at one time is not allowed.

If you want to install your packages in English on a Japanese or Simplified Chinese system, use the Designer to select the most recent English version of each of the individual packages, and upgrade them one at a time.
Note: A package from the English version (ASCII) can be upgraded on an English, Japanese (if the code page of the database set is Japanese) or Simplified Chinese system (if the code page of the database set is Simplified Chinese). The language of the package is compatible with the code page of the database, not the language of the operating system. However, you cannot upgrade a package in Japanese to Simplified Chinese, and vice versa. You can only upgrade packages in English to either Japanese or Simplified Chinese.
