Restart database servers

Restart each Rational® ClearQuest® database and verify its operation:
  1. Start the Rational ClearQuest databases, using the processes specific to each vendor database. After you restart the databases, clients can access records from them.
  2. Test upgraded clients, such as the upgraded administrative host, to verify that they work correctly with the upgraded database. For example, display a few defects in the administrative host by using one of the Rational ClearQuest clients. Then submit and modify a defect to make sure that the information is being written to the database.
  3. Run a few reports to verify that they produce correct information.
  4. Run all batch jobs to verify if that they produce the correct results.
  5. If you are not going to upgrade all clients to version 8.0.x verify that all clients work correctly with the upgraded servers. For example, try simple operations from a client that is not yet upgraded to confirm that it can access the upgraded Rational ClearQuest database. Create and modify a defect to verify that a Rational ClearQuest client can read from and write to the database.

It is particularly important to test all clients thoroughly if you are upgrading using DB2® databases. The database drivers for DB2 change often, and the process of making all clients work with the same database is complex. For more information, see Setting database properties and connection information.

If any test fails, diagnose and fix the problem. Then restart the database and repeat the test.
