Managing databases
Describes the different types of databases that the administrator
can create and manage
As a Rational®
ClearQuest® administrator,
you can create and manage five different types of databases:
- Vendor databases are used in Rational ClearQuest documentation to point to supported enterprise databases. An empty vendor database container is required for each Rational ClearQuest database, whether it is a schema repository, user, sample, or test database.
- Schema repositories, also referred to as master databases, are used to store and manage a group of schemas and their associated user databases. Schema repositories can store multiple schemas and multiple versions of each schema. Schema repositories do not contain user data.
- User databases, also referred to as a production databases, store and manage information about change requests. A user database is always associated with a schema repository where the schema for the user database is stored. The association between the schema repository and user databases is referred to as a database set.
- Sample databases are working user databases that provide 40 sample defect records of user information, as well as sample queries and reports. You can use the sample database for testing and experimenting when creating your first schemas.
- Test databases are temporary user databases that you create when you develop a new schema or a new version of an existing schema. You can use a test database to verify that the new schema performs as expected, without risking any damage to production data in a user database.
